The arc is drawn as one continuous curve, so any flat spot in it shows. Top and drop are hinged separately. That joint is what gives the movement its second beat. Only 34 diamonds, so each one has to sit exactly where the design puts it.

The stones are set the jadau way: gold softened over heat and worked up around each one, with no claw and no solder showing. The order matters, because once a stone is bedded the metal beside it cannot be reheated. Two stones in one piece means sorting both for colour first, so the pearls do not fight the diamonds.
