The set holds together because the earring takes one element of the necklace rather than shrinking the whole thing. The surface is close-set: 406 diamonds with almost no metal showing between them.

The stones are set the jadau way: gold softened over heat and worked up around each one, with no claw and no solder showing. The order matters, because once a stone is bedded the metal beside it cannot be reheated. Two stones in one piece means sorting both for colour first, so the pearls do not fight the diamonds. 18KT gold holds the settings rigid where 22KT would move.
