A peacock carries the piece. The tail opens across the width and the eye of each feather is set individually. Top and drop are hinged separately. That joint is what gives the movement its second beat. The surface is close-set: 600 diamonds with almost no metal showing between them.

Jadau setting means the gold is warmed and pressed around each uncut stone rather than gripped by claws. Every stone has to go in before the piece cools past working temperature. The diamonds and rubies are matched for tone before anything is set, which takes longer than matching for size. 18KT gold holds the settings rigid where 22KT would move.
