Crescent Moon Layered Gold Polki Chandbali

The crescent tapers from the centre to each tip, which is what gives it the sweep. The layers sit at different heights and are set from the back forward, one plane at a time. The surface is close-set: 862 pearls with almost no metal showing between them.

The stones are set the jadau way: gold softened over heat and worked up around each one, with no claw and no solder showing. The order matters, because once a stone is bedded the metal beside it cannot be reheated. 18KT gold holds the settings rigid where 22KT would move.
