723 diamonds, sorted and matched before a single one was set. 228 rubies carry the colour, and the two are matched to one another before anything is set, which takes far longer than matching for size alone.

That is 951 individual settings. A single hand carries the whole run, because two setters will always close a grain slightly differently and at this density the eye catches it.

The peacock is drawn in profile with the tail opened, each feather worked separately into the metal. The design was resolved before the first stone was ordered, so the settings follow the drawing rather than the drawing accommodating the stones.
