The section stays constant the whole way round, so the piece reads the same from every angle.

220 rubies run to 190.06 carats. None of them were bought to a size; each was selected for where it would sit. 80 diamonds carry the colour, and the two are matched to one another before anything is set, which takes far longer than matching for size alone. The diamonds are white throughout, which sets the boundary the colour is read against.

300 settings, all cut and closed by hand, and all by one setter so the pressure stays consistent.

Nothing here is applied after the fact. The structure and the ornament were drawn at the same time, which is why the piece has no unresolved back.
