963 diamonds run to 35.94 carats. None of them were bought to a size; each was selected for where it would sit.

That is 963 individual settings. A single hand carries the whole run, because two setters will always close a grain slightly differently and at this density the eye catches it.

The design was resolved before the first stone was ordered, so the settings follow the drawing rather than the drawing accommodating the stones.
