518 diamonds, sorted and matched before a single one was set. The ruby is graded against the diamonds for tone first. Stones that read correctly on their own can still fight when they sit together.

519 settings, each cut and closed by hand. Work at that count is measured in weeks at the bench rather than days, and it is given to one setter so the tension stays even across the piece. 117.24 grams of gold, worked thin behind the design so the weight sits where the wearer can carry it.

Nothing here is applied after the fact. The structure and the ornament were drawn at the same time, which is why the piece has no unresolved back.
