It hangs as a single line and comes to its point at the front.
655 diamonds, sorted and matched before a single one was set. The rubies are graded against the diamonds for tone first. Stones that read correctly on their own can still fight when they sit together. A third stone enters at the margins, held back so it accents rather than competes.
That is 675 individual settings. A single hand carries the whole run, because two setters will always close a grain slightly differently and at this density the eye catches it. At 108.04 grams the piece has to be built hollow where it will not be seen, or it could not be worn for long.
The design was resolved before the first stone was ordered, so the settings follow the drawing rather than the drawing accommodating the stones.
