The dome is raised from sheet, which keeps it hollow and light rather than solid and dead. The bell is the design. It is raised from flat sheet in two halves, seamed at the waist, and hung so it swings clear of the lobe. 302 pearls cover the face, set tight enough that the ground reads as stone rather than metal.

That is 360 settings, cut and closed one at a time. The pearls and emeralds are matched for tone before anything is set, which takes longer than matching for size. 22KT gold is soft to work and unforgiving to finish.
