The stones are set the jadau way, into gold softened over heat and worked up around each one, with no claw and no solder showing. The sequence cannot be revised: once a stone is bedded, the metal beside it will not take heat again. 1,231 settings, each cut and closed by hand. Work at that count is measured in weeks at the bench rather than days, and it is given to one setter so the tension stays even across the piece.
Flowers carry it, each head built separately and set at its own height so the surface is never flat. The design was resolved before the first stone was ordered, so the settings follow the drawing rather than the drawing accommodating the stones.
