The sections are graduated toward the centre, which is what keeps the piece sitting level. The surface is close-set: 870 diamonds with almost no metal showing between them. At 163.65 grams the metal has to be built hollow in places or the piece would be unwearable.

Jadau setting means the gold is warmed and pressed around each uncut stone rather than gripped by claws. Every stone has to go in before the piece cools past working temperature. 22KT gold is soft to work and unforgiving to finish.
