The sections are graduated toward the centre, which is what keeps the piece sitting level. The surface is close-set: 1000 emeralds with almost no metal showing between them.

The stones are set the jadau way: gold softened over heat and worked up around each one, with no claw and no solder showing. The order matters, because once a stone is bedded the metal beside it cannot be reheated. Two stones in one piece means sorting both for colour first, so the emeralds do not fight the diamonds. 22KT gold is soft to work and unforgiving to finish.
