971 diamonds run to 81.64 carats. None of them were bought to a size; each was selected for where it would sit.

That is 971 individual settings. A single hand carries the whole run, because two setters will always close a grain slightly differently and at this density the eye catches it. 130.81 grams of gold, worked thin behind the design so the weight sits where the wearer can carry it.

Nothing here is applied after the fact. The structure and the ornament were drawn at the same time, which is why the piece has no unresolved back.
