It is built in linked sections rather than one rigid piece, so the curve follows the throat instead of standing away from it. The surface is close-set: 388 pearls with almost no metal showing between them.
The filigree is drawn wire, twisted and soldered into place. The wire is fine enough that a moment too long under the torch takes the whole section. That is 388 settings, cut and closed one at a time. 22KT gold is soft to work and unforgiving to finish.
