Top and drop are hinged separately. That joint is what gives the movement its second beat. The surface is close-set: 704 diamonds with almost no metal showing between them.

Jadau setting means the gold is warmed and pressed around each uncut stone rather than gripped by claws. Every stone has to go in before the piece cools past working temperature. Two stones in one piece means sorting both for colour first, so the emeralds do not fight the diamonds. 18KT gold holds the settings rigid where 22KT would move.
