The set works because the earring is a fragment of the choker, not a separate design placed beside it. The surface is close-set: 305 pearls with almost no metal showing between them. At 105.94 grams the metal has to be built hollow in places or the piece would be unwearable.
That is 340 settings, cut and closed one at a time. Two stones in one piece means sorting both for colour first, so the emeralds do not fight the pearls. 22KT gold is soft to work and unforgiving to finish.
